About the Candidate

Why Elect Melissa Atherholt?

The Register of Wills is tasked with stewardship of registered documents associated with estate plans of Frederick County citizens.

I take this responsibility seriously. Timely, efficient and sensitive implementation of document safekeeping, execution of wills and probate concerns are paramount to my success in this role. As a 22-year Realtor, my work involves estate management and asset disposition.

As a veteran small business owner, entrepreneur, corporate operations manager, mediator and hospice volunteer, I’m prepared to evaluate office operations and embrace technology for improvement.

I hold a B.A. in Telecommunications from The Pennsylvania State University and I am currently working on a Certificate in Judicial Administration from Michigan State University. I am also a trained Mediator, and a former Toastmaster from my days at Bechtel Corporation.

Frederick has been my family home for 18 years. I have seen the county grow and change in a positive way. In a position like Register of Wills, it is important to have an individual who will cultivate an atmosphere of fairness and equality -- My goal is to infuse this vital role with kindness, energy, enthusiasm and compassionate service for all.
